Hey Clubbers!
Welcome to the JOY Edition. Today we're shining a light on Danish-Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson. Master of Light.
Known for sculptures and large-scale art installations employing elemental materials such as light, water, and air temperature to enhance the viewer’s experience. In 1995 he established Studio Olafur Eliasson in Berlin, a laboratory for spatial research where his work crosses over between art + science in a most marvellous way.
Like all great art, we love the way Olafur's work draws the viewer in. You want to experience that world, and to share it's joy and magic with others.
And another reason we're showcasing him, links randomly back to our streetwear passion...
The back story goes that while Olafur's first solo art show was at the young age of 15 (Tween inspo right there!) he considered his "break-dancing" during the mid-1980s to be his first REAL artworks.
Together with two school friends, he formed the 'Harlem Gun Crew' and as a group, they performed at clubs and dance halls for four years, eventually winning the Scandinavian championship.
Fella's got talent!
Right now, 'Din Blinde Passanger' is part of the artist's major retrospective 'In Real Life' open at London's TATE Modern. Spanning over three decades, it brings together almost 40 works, including 'Beauty', 'Your Spiral View', 'Your Uncertain Shadow' and 'Big Bang Fountain'. Runs until January 2020.
